We tend to do this, in the main, through our own time of fasting, selfdenial, penitence, (regret and sorrow for the things we have done wrong) and simplicity, in order to get closer to God.
This also involves periods of study, and extended times of prayer either alone or in groups. It is important to remember that our disciplines throughout Lent are supposed to ultimately transform our entire person: body, soul, and spirit and help us become more like Jesus. The more quiet time you can get, the better.
Barbara and I are very fortunate this year in that ten days of Lent for us will be spent in the Holy Land. We will be visiting, exploring, and experiencing some of the places that Jesus himself walked and talked, and taught his disciples.
I pray that you will feel God’s presence at a deeper and more personal level throughout Lent and that you may be transformed by his presence in body, soul, and spirit.
God bless you all.
